Since the last 6 months now, I have been cleaning my closet to get a better picture of what all am I really missing out on. As a ‘trend loving’ girl I have so much, yet I never have clothes, is what made me clean out. I got much of my stuff altered, gave away clothes and jewellery out of goodwill and got it all organized. So now I know what all is actually missing from my basic ‘must have’ list. I want more of buttoned down, clear and fresh shirts!

Granted that I do not work in a corporate world anymore, I have stopped wearing those formals and nicely fitted flowy shirts. They are just not a part of my uniform anymore. And this just doesn’t seem right to me.

Well, my vibe has always been modern, edgy, yet sophisticated. I want to make the traditional staple feel fresh by adding a lil drama (ofcourse). So, the easiest way a girl can look her best effortlessly? Yes! Is by investing in a good fitted white shirt.

SS TIP: Every girl should “own” a white shirt and an LBD / LBJ!

The classic white – a must have item, will always help one keep the look simple and definitive. There are various ways to wear it and highlight your assets correctly.

Now, wearing the white shirt also comes with a lot of do’s and don’ts and doubts. In order to get the perfect fit, I would never wear a tank top inside my white shirt and keep the top buttons open. Never is the word. I rather would invest in one good fitted shirt (avoid anything boxy, it will make you look big, and alterations can always be done).

Keeping the white shirt white is also a problem, especially in India. They do need to be replaced and I would say they have a lifespan on 20- 24 months only, depending on your usage. However, till then maintaining them is the key. Even though dry cleaning is a lil expensive, I would highly recommend dry cleaning them after atleast 2-3 wears. This will help retain its color, shape, and crispness. Girls, please avoid sprays and deodorants. Specially, as it causes yellowing in the armpits and after repeatedly done, these marks do tend to hold on forever. Do not rub any make up (near the neck) to avoid dirtying of your crisp shirt. Also, be careful with bleach. Even if you don’t realize, it will eventually make it dull.

White Shirt is one of the most affordable fashion items and it keeps you covered for a job interview, office wear, everyday leisure time or even when you have to make a statement. Getting the basics right can help you do it all with White!

You can customize the whole look by throwing in accessories such as scarves, belts, bags and jewellery and even play with cardigans, jeans, skirts and shoes.

Here I have kept it very simple as I am wearing a super fitted Ramanika white shirt and have button the cuffs, as prim as Audrey Hepburn. The sexiest length of the sleeve is the mid-forearm; you do not want to push the limits making it too casual. I have accessorised with a Bronze gold shirt collar. Beneath, a cute flair green skater skirt. To highlight the look I have worn a colour pop LYDC (London) handbag and Red Lips (Oh, yeah)! I am going for a meeting and want to look curt yet charmingly pretty so lenskart completes my look with those sharp frames.

Ta Da!!

End note, I love necklaces with shirts. Whether you button up your shirt all the way up till the collar and add a beautiful editorial statement neckpiece OR unbutton your shirt low (ofc, not too low) and wear a long neckpiece that will dangle just on top on your bust line. The wonderful thing about white shirts is ‘how versatile they are’, isn’t it?

Love thyself,

Sincerely, Su!
